Dear Aldine Community,
The last week of the school year is here! First, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to parents and caregivers, who are our children’s first teachers, and who have stepped up during these last few months in unexpected and courageous ways. Your support has helped students continue to learn even when they were not in physical classrooms. Thanks to the leadership of our families, educators, and school administrators, we are closing out the school year strong.
This week, we’re in full celebration mode because our students deserve it! Follow along on our Aldine ISD Facebook page and read on for details.
- We’re sending off the Class of 2020 through a virtual Senior Spirit Week.
- We’re honoring senior student-athletes.
- We’re uplifting our youngest students through primary school virtual and curbside celebrations.
As a reminder, we will host a virtual conferral event for the Class of 2020 on June 1, which will mark the completion of graduating seniors’ high school diploma, followed by commencement ceremonies on July 23 and 24. The official hashtag for social media is #AISDClassof2020.
This Summer
June Jam kicks off June 1! Students in all grade levels will continue to have access to the At-Home Learning site to focus on reading and learning enrichment. No assignments will be required; instead, we will offer fun and engaging new ways to continue learning. All activities are optional, and no grades will be taken.
We want to ensure that learning continues even during the summer months. Secondary students who already have a device should keep it through the summer. We are also working closely with campus principals to identify primary and elementary students who have expressed a need for a device.
Graduating seniors or students who are withdrawing from the district should return the device to the location where they picked them up from by Friday, May 29. If you have any questions, contact the Teaching and Learning Department.
What’s Next?
It is challenging to operate within specific timelines without knowing tomorrow’s virus impact on our community. I assure you that our priority will always be the safety of our employees and students.
Our cross-functional team continues to meet daily to identify areas of interest and charge leaders to begin planning the next steps. All of our planning is based on these Core Beliefs.
Additionally, we will not move forward without the input of our stakeholders. If you are like me, you are hearing a lot about guidelines, schedules, virtual learning, etc. There are many decisions that will be made between now and the start of the school year, which is currently scheduled for August 17. Please complete this short questionnaire about how you intend for your student to access school this fall. Your responses will be used to guide our planning.
