Dear Aldine Community,
We’re in the final stretch! These last two weeks of the year mark the closing of a chapter—one we will always remember as a time we worked harder than ever to stay the course and navigate our paths forward.
To our graduating seniors, we cannot wait to celebrate you! Until then, we’ve put together 10 ways Aldine ISD families can celebrate the Class of 2020. Don’t forget to join us for a virtual Class of 2020 Senior Spirit Week May 25-29! Seniors and their families are invited to participate in a virtual districtwide Class of 2020 Spirit Week as well as the specific events that campuses are hosting. We have also planned a virtual conferral celebration. Aldine ISD will broadcast this event on our Aldine ISD Facebook page.
Although we will host the Class of 2020 commencement ceremonies on July 23 and 24, this conferral will mark the completion of graduating seniors’ high school diploma. The official hashtag for social media is #AISDClassof2020.
To our youngest learners, we are excited about what the future holds. We’re planning for the school year ahead alongside families and students. Last week, more than 100 participants — parents, grandparents, legal guardians, teachers, principals, and business partners — joined a conversation with Principal Dr. Andrenetta Marshall at Keeble Primary School.
Due to popular demand, a “Thought Exchange Part 2” will take place on May 26 at 11:30 a.m. on the Keeble Primary School Facebook page. You can view the recorded May 12 session on the page.
We’re also listening to families and staff through an online survey launched last week. The survey’s questions address the overall satisfaction with Aldine’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, district and school communication and support, technology access and resources, distance learning, and student support. Results will help the district identify its strengths and develop a targeted action plan for the future.
And to help students, we will continue providing virtual learning opportunities during the summer months. We are launching June Jam. During June Jam, students in all grade levels will continue to have access to the At-Home Learning site to focus on reading and learning enrichment. No assignments will be required; instead, we will offer fun and engaging new ways to continue learning. All activities are optional, and no grades will be taken. June Jam will kick off June 1.
Lastly, we are planning for what “next” looks like. You should know a cross-functional team met today to launch our planning for change officially. The group will identify areas of interest and charge leaders to begin planning the next steps. All of our planning will be based on these Core Beliefs.
Reminders
All online learning activities and resources can be found on our Aldine At-Home website. Students should be completing Week 10 of the Home Learning Activity Guide. Grades for designated assignments for 6th-12th grade students will be taken through Monday, May 18.
Aldine ISD schools and facilities are closed through May 28, the last day of instruction.
