200 Hall Teachers
My name is Norma Hanna, and I am a bilingual PK teacher at Garcia Leza. I’ve been a teacher here for 8 years. I was born in Mexico City, my parents made great sacrifices to migrate to the United States to provide me with a better future. I am a first-generation college graduate who has worked very hard to inspire others in my community to learn. In 2004, I began volunteering at numerous schools within the Aldine District. By the end of 2005, I had volunteered with 6 different elementary schools. My exposure to each campus reassured me that I was pursuing the right path. I graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. In addition, I was the Lead Coach for the UHD Women’s Soccer Team for two years prior to joining the Garcia-Leza Team in 2012. I understand the importance of multicultural education and the struggles that must be overcome to master a second language. My passion for teaching has inspired my students to love learning and has granted me many accomplishments such as Campus Teacher of the Year at Garcia-Leza EC/PK in 2015/2016, SHABE Teacher of the Year in 2017/2018, and INSPIRE Aldine 2019.
