The district will honor school librarians on Tuesday, April 5, with small appreciation gifts for all they do to improve students’ literacy skills.

This week, Aldine ISD encourages all families and students to visit their library in person or online to explore and access services and programs. The school district offers a wide array of programs, classes, and resources available in person or from home, accessible from the campus library or online from the library landing page, which can also be found on the Aldine ISD Library Media Services Department webpage.

April 3-9, 2022, is National Library Week, is a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. This year’s National Library Week theme is “Connect With Your Library.”

How Can You Connect With Your School Library?

Libraries are places where communities connect—to things like:

    • broadband
    • computers
    • programs
    • classes
    • books
    • movies
    • video games, and more!

The school district will honor ILSs (information literacy specialists, aka librarians) on Library Workers Day on Tuesday, April 5, by sending appreciation gifts to all campus ILS and recognizing them on social media.

Libraries continue to go above and beyond to keep their communities connected by expanding resources and embracing inclusion in their programming, resources, and collections. They provide electronic learning resources like online homework help and Wi-Fi access for students and workers who may lack Internet access at home. The district’s Library Media Services Department and schools support the community with services such as family access to print books and ebooks, electronic learning and research databases, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) activities, author visits, and — in the near future — a mobile library that will bring books out to the community during summer months.

This National Library Week, the public can show their appreciation and support for libraries by visiting their library in person or online, following them on social media, and using the hashtags #AldineForward, #NationalLibraryWeek2022, and #MyLibrary.

Molly Shannon, multiple Emmy-nominated and Spirit Award-winning actress, comedian, and legendary Saturday Night Live cast member, will help celebrate our nation’s libraries as the honorary chair of National Library Week this year.
